“Well, they’ve obviously run out of ideas.” This recapitulatory statement, directed at no one in particular, is commonly uttered after seeing a terrible movie — but it can also pertain to trophies as well. With a commemorative trophy attached to every major event, tournament, conference rival, division rival and bowl game for nearly every major sport, it can get a little ridiculous. From the ludicrously grotesque glass awards to the common gaudy plaques it’s a challenge to find an obscure sporting event that doesn’t have a trophy that’s downright laughable.
